Now let’s talk about concept technology for military use. The soldiers constantly need battlefield data any way they can get it.

InHand Electronics introduced the new Soldier Flex PDA which seems so much more practical than all those HUD-driven cyberhelmets we’ve seen. It has a flexible e-ink display with a proprietary battery management software. The SFPDA weighs less than one pound but runs for 6 hours off a single charge, while still providing Ethernet, Bluetooth, and USB connectivity.

We don’t know the price or the availability date, but when the Pentagon is the buyer, it probably isn’t so important.

Vodafone Group PLC has worked together with Palm Inc. to launch a smartphone similar to the Treo 750v but at a fraction of the price and with a newly designed user interface in order to obtain new revenue from mobile data services. The new Palm Treo 500v smartphone seems to fit perfectly for the nowadays “mySpace and Youtube” generation. Its keyboard is useful for chatting on IM or browsing the web, checking your e-mail.

Treo will have Windows Mobile 6, a 2 MP camera and 3G data transfer. 500V will include IM, “push” email for MSN, Yahoo! Mail, and Gmail, Vodafone Live!, Pocket Word, Excel, Powerpoint. The internal memory of 150 MB can be extended with a micro SD slot. Its dimensions are of 11 x 6.2 x 1.7 cm and weighs 120 grams.

Treo 500v is quite a mediocre appearance , its only chance of becoming a success being a reasonable price and a more interesting design than that of the competitor gadgets. Palm Treo will be sold exclusively by Vodafone. Customers in Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, the UK and South Africa will all be able to choose between either the glacier white or charcoal grey models. Pricing of the 500v will vary according to market.
